Shimmering Stardust Eyeshadow By Urban Decay Review | Highly Pigmented Shadows Blend Well & Glide On

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Urban Decay Stardust EyeshadowUrban Decay has devised a shimmering set of eye shadows for spring 2010 called Stardust. These shades aren't for the faint heart! Apparently there is even more glitter than ever before, 40% more to be exact says Urban Decay.

The 9 different shades are listed below:

  • Space Cowboy- shimmering champagne beige
  • Bobby Dazzle- shimmery white
  • Griffith -shimmery yellow green
  • Diamond- shimmering brown
  • 54-sparkly purple
  • Retrograde- shimmering deep purple with a tinge of red
  • Atmosphere- shimmery bright blue
  • Moon spoon-sparkly greyish mauve
  • Void-greyish black with sparkles (like the night sky)

The stardust set has been designed not to have big chunks of glitter that gets every where, it should stay put. The eyeshadow has a long last formula and should glide onto your eye lids with ease. The amount of product you get has doubled compared to the other Urban Decay shadows.

Users Conclusions

Pros

  • Shimmery
  • Blends well
  • Glides on easily

Cons

  • Glitter fall out ( only a small amount but enough to notice)

Tips

To get less glitter fall out from an eye shadow try using a damp sponge to apply it. Stardust would work well for a sexy shimmering smokey eye look. I personally think void and retrograde would work well together.

Ingredients

All shades contain: Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Talc, Zinc Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.

To Sum Up

A nice selection of colors that most ladies love, unfortunately they aren't as pigmented as Urban Decay promise. Still very desirable though, personally I prefer more subtle shades anyway.

There is a small amount of fall out also which lets stardust down, although if used with a damp sponge fall out should lesson.

Even though Urban Decay have doubled the amount of product you get for Stardust shadow, it is still expensive at $20 for one shade.

She Laq Makeup Sealer by Benefit Cosmetics Review | Lacquer Stops Smudging & Fading

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Benefit Cosmetics She LaqShe Laq is a clear liquid solution designed to be put on the top of any makeup to help it last longer without smudging or fading.

It comes with a set of brushes to apply the formula with. The brush set includes:

  • A mascara wand
  • A lip gloss brush
  • A eye shadow brush
  • A eyeliner brush

There is also a brush attached to the lid of the solution. This can be used to put the liquid onto the application brushes, so not too much is used and the solution will stay clean.

Benefit do advise that all the application brushes need to be cleaned after each use to stop contamination.

Users Conclusions

I have summarized below the opinions of the ladies using She Laq:

Pros

  • Prevents smudging
  • Long lasting
  • A little goes a long way
  • Stops mascara causing raccoon eyes

Cons

  • Makes skin feel tight
  • Looks shiny (one users opinion)
  • A little pricey

Ingredients

Water, SD Alcohol 40-B, Acrylates/Octylacylamide Copolymer, Triethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Imidazolidinyl Urea.

Directions

Dip a clean brush into she-laq and apply over makeup to seal it on. Allow to dry completely for about 1-2 minutes before touching. Wash brushes after each use and store in pouch.

To Sum Up

Most patrons using She Laq found it helped their makeup last longer without smudging and think its a little pricey at $30 but worth it as it last a long time.

Some ladies think its an average product that works well for eyeliner but nothing else. They also found that it was a little difficult to use, as if too much lacquer is used it looks a little plastic and makes the skin feel tight.

This may not be the easiest product to use but when you get the hang of it like many have, it seems to work for most people.

Conditioning Tinted Brow Gel For Eyebrow Control by Anastasia Review | Holds, Colors & Soothes Brows

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel For Eyebrow ControlAnastasia's Tinted Brow Gel is devised to keep unruly hair in place as well as added a little hint of color to define the brows, this will help to frame the eyes making them pop!

The formula should hold the brows in place all day long without flaking or leaving a sticky feeling. Anastasia has also added a botanical hair conditions and essential oils to help the hair look and feel great.

This tinted gel doesn't contain any harsh chemicals but does have chamomile extract which has soothing properties, so this should be suitable for people with irritable skin.

There are six colors to choose from:

  1. Espresso – for black hair
  2. Caramel – for medium/dark blonde hair
  3. Granite – for dark brown almost black hair
  4. Blonde – for light/medium blonde hair
  5. Clear – for hold without color
  6. Brunette – for medium brown hair

I would suggest purchasing one shade darker then your natural hair color for the brows as this creates a defining look that frames the eyes. I have very fair blonde brows and I use a brown tint. Then it actually looks like I have eyebrows!

Users Conclusions

Summarized below are the opinions of the ladies using the tinted gel:

Pros

  • Not too thick
  • Light
  • Holds brows in place
  • Easy to apply
  • Provides natural color
  • Covers greys

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), VP/VA Copolymer, Alcohol Denatured, Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Glycerin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Chamomilla Recutita Extract (Matricaria), Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, May Contain (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica, Iron Oxide (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470).

Directions

Remove the wand from the veil and wipe excess product from around the base of the brush, then with a gentle sweeping upward and outward motion this will achieve the most flattering shape.

To Sum Up

Anastasia has received 5 stars by Amazon reviewers who say the tinted gel helped control their unruly brows with a natural hint of color.

Patrons liked how light, long lasting and easy to apply the gel is and that fact that it doesn't flake like some gels.

I think it is quite reasonably priced at $21 for 10g tube, considering it would cost at least that much if not more to have your brows shaped and tinted at a spa.

Dramatic Supershock Mascara By Avon Review | Long Lasting Defining False Lash Effect in Black or Brown

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

avon supershock mascaraAvon Supershock Mascara has been created to expand, plump lashes for a false lash effect and is available in black or brown.

The wand and veil is devised to give up to 12x more volume with one dip. The teal plastic fine combed applicator picks up the maximum amount of formula possible to coat all lashes evenly with one sweep, according to Avon.

All Avon mascaras are always hypoallergenic and opthalmologist-tested, so should be suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

Supershock mascara won the SELF Health and Beauty award in 2008. Self is a magazine that once a year since 1999 has picked out the strongest product from a variety of brands. If you are interested in the results take a look at the site: http://www.self.com/beauty/2009/05/healthy-beauty-awards

Avon is an ever growing popular brand that is starting to spread its seeds all over the world. I like the brand as its usually cheap and effective.

Users Conclusions

I have compiled the list below from users reviews from Avon.com:

Pros

  • No clumps
  • Long lasting
  • No raccoon eyes
  • Wand separates lashes
  • Thickens

Cons

  • Not waterproof
  • The wand doesn't taper in to reach the small inner lashes

Ingredients

WATER/EAU, SHELLAC WAX/CIRE DE LAQUE, BEESWAX/CIRE D'ABEILLE, STEARIC ACID, C18-38 ALKYL, HYDROXYSTEAROYL STEARATE, COPERNICIA CERIFERA (CARNAUBA) WAX/CIRE DE CARNAUBA,
BIS-PEG-12 DIMETHICONE BEESWAX, TRIETHANOLAMINE, AMMONIUM ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, GLYCERIN, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE, PARAFFIN, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, AMINOMETHYL PROPANEDIOL, SORBITAN SESQUIOLEATE, CELLULOSE, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE, POLYQUATERNIUM-10, GALACTOARABINAN, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, STEARYL DIHYDROXYPROPYLDIMONIUM OLIGOSACCHARIDES, TETRASODIUM EDTA, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, STEARDIMONIUM HYDROXYPROPYL PANTHENYL PEG-7 DIMETHICONE PHOSPH.CHLORIDE, DIMETHICONE, POLYQUATERNIUM-11, POLYQUATERNIUM-7, TIN OXIDE, LAURETH-30, SORBITAN STEARATE, PEG-40 STEARATE, SILICA, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, PHENOXYETHANOL.

To Sum Up

All in all a very popular choice of mascara with most patrons relishing how it separates and thickens lashes.

There was one user that pointed out a obvious minor floor to the applicator. It doesn't taper in at the end like most wands, so it makes it harder to coat the small inner lashes without making a mess.

At $3.99 for a .35oz veil it is a very reasonably priced mascara, considering most are at least double that price.

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer PotionUrban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion has a unique veil shaped like a genie bottle in a cute lilac shade.

The primer is devised to provide a totally translucent base that should glide on easily, this is promised by Urban Decay to make eyeshadow smoother to apply, appear more vibrant and last longer without creasing.

Apparently the potion has been improved with its new bent wand, this is designed to make applications smoother and easier.

The ingredients suggest this may not appeal to the more Eco friendly patron as it contains some synthetic ingredients.

Users Conclusions

Below I have summarized users opinions of Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion:

Pros

  • No flaking or fading
  • No creasing
  • Lightweight creamy texture
  • Non sticky
  • Colors appear more vibrant

Cons

  • A little expensive
  • wand applicator isn't very effective
  • Doesn't work for oily lids ( according to a few reviews)

Ingredients

Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Triethylhexanoin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Methicone, Isobutylparaben. May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride).

However, a few users found it didn't work for them at all, this was mainly ladies with oily lids. They said it didn't make any difference to their eyeshadow, some even said it made the shadow crease more.

The primer is also a little lavishly priced at $18 but most users said it does last a long time, so its worth the price.

Compact Eyelash Curler By Laura Mercier Review | Creates Dramatic Lashes

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Laura Mercier Eyelash CurlerLaura Mercier's Eyelash Curler is devised to give eye the dramatic eye look by accentuating the lashes.

This curler is 2.5" X 1.5" X .75"/6.35cm X 3.81cm X 1.91cm, compact enough or travel and should be the perfect size to create the best lift and curl for the lashes.

The shape of the eyelash curler is unique compared to others, there is no need to squeeze this curler, as the easel-style handle flips down to provide the perfect amount of pressure with the cushiony pad for lasting curl without grabbing or pinching.

It has a replacement pad at the base for when the other pad is warn out.

Users Conclusions

The list below summarizes what the users think of Laura Merciers eye lash curler:

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Travel size
  • Dramatic curl
  • No Pinching or pulling skin
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • A little flimsy (one users opinion)

Directions For Use

Flip down the easel-style handle and position lashes into curler and gently squeeze. When desired curl is achieved, flip handle up into locked position.

To prevent less lash breakage and fall out, always curl before you apply mascara. This also stops the curler getting sticky and dirty.

To Sum Up

The reviews for the curler are first rate with the majority of the users saying how much easier it is to use. They also cherish the dramatic lashes it creates.

However, one patron did say it works well but the curler itself seems a bit flimsy compared to others.

I think the price is a little lavish at $16, as a metal curler could be bought for less than half. Although, this is a lot easier to use and more compact, plus it has a extra replacement pad.
