Wen Bath, Body & Hair Fig Oil by Chaz Dean | Moisturizes, Adds Softness & Shine

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

WEN Bath, Body and Hair OilWen has devised this Fig oil to be used on hair, body and in the bath it should provide moisturize for the body and hair as well as adding softness and shine to help them look healthier for longer.

It is made up of essential oils that leave the body and hair with a delightful aroma, says Wen.

Also suggested by Wen is for you to add the oil to your body lotion or leave in conditioner for that extra bit of moisture.

The oil itself comes in a brown glass bottle with a rubber drop applicator lid, allowing for more exact oil usage. If you know much about aromatherapy, it's one of those bottles.

Users Conclusions

I have summarized the lists below from the reviews of the patrons:

Pros

  • Moisturizes dry hair
  • Lightweight
  • Non greasy
  • Helps moisturize dry skin
  • Smells great

Cons

  • Too strong smelling ( a few users opinions)

Ingredients

Cold-Pressed Golden Jojoba and Essential Oils.

Directions

Bath: Apply 2-4 full droppers into bath water. Body: Apply 1-2 full droppers to skin after showering, before drying off.

Hair: Apply 3-5 full droppers to dry hair before bed. Tilt head back and apply directly to scalp, massage vigorously, brush through, and leave-in overnight. Cleanse out with the Cleansing Conditioners the following morning. Recommended at least 2-3 times per week for scalp treatment.

To Sum Up

This body and hair oil by Wen has very good reviews from the users, who say it moisturizes dry hair, softens the skin and smells fabulous.

There are a couple of fans that think the fragrance is too strong but they say it doesn't last, so it's not unbearable.

One lady found it didn't work at all for her dry hair and said it is a waste of money.

At $20 for a 4oz bottle I think it is a average price considering it lasts a long time.

Skin So Soft by Avon Review | Moisturizing Bath Oil Repels Mosquito’s

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Avon Skin So Soft Bath OilSkin So Soft bath oil by Avon was created to be added to the tub to leave skin smooth, soft and lock in that much needed moisture.

Avon says the formula is unique with its all over moisturizing and the original woodland fragrance. It doesn't seem very unique to me as its main ingredients are mineral oil, carrot seed oil and BHT.

Controversial BHT

I just want to give you a little info into the background of BHT. It is a crystalline phenolic antioxidant used to preserve fats and oils, especially in foods.

BHT was banned by the FDA in use of baby foods and is also banned in all foods in the U.K. It is still widely used in other foods and cosmetics around the world.

Many scientists have tested BHT and say it's a carcinogen. This means they believe it causes cancer. Although there are others who believe it actually prevents cancer. Even then the results aren't that rosy, as in some instances they found it can still cause enlarged liver tumors.

These tests use a significant amount of BHT over a prolonged period, some scientific evidence shows that small amounts in cosmetics are safe to use.

To read more about BHT check out this site:http://truthinaging.com/body/what-is-it-bht/

Sorry if this scares you but I think you should know about the ingredients your using.

Users Conclusions

I have compiled the lists below from users opinions from Amazon:

Pros

  • Great for mosquito repellant
  • Softens skin
  • Helps cut through oil grease
  • Nice fragrance
  • Insect repellant-ants-ticks

Cons

  • Too greasy
  • Quite pricey
  • Makes the bath slippery

Ingredients

MINERAL OIL/HUILE MINERALE, ISOPROPYL PALMITATE, DICAPRYL ADIPATE, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, DIOCTYL SODIUM SULFOSUCCINATE, BHT, DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) SEED OIL.

To Sum Up

It seems that Skin So Soft can be used for many tasks, according to a lot of patrons that say they use it for such tasks as an insect repellant, cut oil grease, moisturize skin etc.

However, some users think it is too greasy no matter how little you use. I would like to point out that as it it made from mineral oil and carrot seed oil that it will be greasy. It would be better for people with very dry skin as most of the oil should be absorbed into the skin.

A few Patrons think it is priced quite high at $16 for a 24fl.oz bottle. I think it's a reasonable price for a multi-use formula.

Just be aware that it does contain a small amount of cancer causing BHT.

Body Clear by Neutrogena Review | Body Scrub Clears Acne & Smooths Skin

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Neutrogena Body Clear Body ScrubIt's great to have a body scrub that also helps to reduce acne breakouts, I hate it when summer comes and you don't feel comfortable wearing that strappy top because of a breakout on the back.

Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub is formulated with salicylic acid is a proven ingredient to help clear acne and reduce further breakouts.

The scrub also contains micro-beads to get rid of dead skin cells that can clog pores therefor leaving the skin smoother and clearer.

This body scrub is gentle as it only contains 2% salicylic acid and Neutrogena also promises that the lather will rinse off easily without leaving any pore clogging residue behind. It is designed for daily use in the shower or bath.

Users Conclusions

I summarized the lists below from the patrons opinions on epinions.com:

Pros

  • Improves skins texture
  • Non greasy
  • Feels clean
  • Gentle
  • Pleasant fragrance
  • Easy to use
  • Effective

Cons

  • Dries skin (a couple of users found)
  • Didn't clear up acne ( a few users found)
  • Not well packaged

Ingredients

Salicylic Acid (2%) (Acne Treatment)Water, Sodium C14 16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocamphodiacetate, Polyethylene, Glycerin, Acrylates/Aminoacrylates/C10 30 Alkyl PEG 20 Itaconate Copolymer, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Linoleamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Matricaria Flower Extract (Chamomilla Recutita), Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Yellow 6, Red 40, Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Red 33, Yellow 5, Fragrance.

To Sum Up

All in all a reasonable product from Neutrogena with most of the users singing its praises. They said it helped clear acne as well as smooth their skin.

However, there area couple of patrons that found the formula didn't work at all for their acne breakouts and in some cases it just dried and irritated it.

At $23.97 for 3 8.5oz bottles it is quite reasonably priced and won't break the bank if you want to give it a try.

Eyeshadow/Concealer Primer “Stay Don’t Stray” by Benefit Review | Reduces Creasing & Prolongs Color

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Benefit Cosmetics Stay Don't StrayStay Don't Stray is an around the eye primer for concealers and eyeshadows. It is devised to stop concealers from creasing and make sure shadows last all day with vibrant color.

Benefit have made it a neutral shade so it should suit any skin tone. It is created with a airless pump for easy use, this also stops contamination of the formula.

The primer is formulated with sodium hyaluronate to hydrate skin and help lock in moisture. Vitamin C and E also help fight the signs of aging, says Benefit.

This is yet another product I have reviewed that doesn't contain Parabens, which as I have said in other posts are preservatives used in many cosmetics and some pharmaceutical products.

Users Conclusions

I have listed below some of the opinions of ladies that are using Stay Don't Stray primer:

Pros

  • Creamy
  • Absorbing
  • Quick drying
  • Color correcting
  • Easy to apply

Cons

  • Pump dispenses too much product (most people found this)
  • Can crease ( some found this)

Directions

Apply the primer over lids and under eyes and let set. Then apply your concealer to under-eye area and your eyeshadow.

To Sum Up

Most ladies that have tried Stay Don't Stray primer seem to favor it, as it is creamy to apply, quick drying and helps eyeshadow last longer.

There is one problem most people experienced when using the primer, they found the pump dispenser wastes a lot of product by dispensing too much every time. Also some found it made their concealer crease after a couple of hours.

I think is a little lavishly priced at $24 a bottle, although not really any complaints from patrons of the price.

All in all a reasonable primer Benefit should just get rid of the pump dispenser and opt for a tube.

Hydrating 100% Natural Lip Gloss Review | Bare Escentuals Creates High Shine Lip Color

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Bare Escentuals Natural Lip GlossBare Escentuals is well known for it's amazing natural products. Personally, I think its an amazing company with exceptional products.

As expected this lip gloss is 100% natural, a big plus for those of you that are Eco friendly.

The natural ingredients like Cupuacu butter and Seed oil should help hydrate lips leaving them smooth , soft and non sticky. A subtle Vanilla fragrance is apparent with the gloss.

Bare Escentuals 100% Natural Lip Gloss is available in 12 different shades.

Contains no Preservatives or petro-chemicals seems to be a running theme that a lot of cosmetics have in common these days. While having more natural ingredients are a good thing, having no preservatives does mean they aren't going to last more than a few months or so. Just some thing to keep in mind.

Unfortunately Bare Escentuals did not include a SPF in this gloss, which can help stop lips from drying out as quickly.

Users conclusions

Below I have summarized the opinions of the ladies using Bare Escentuals lip gloss:

Pros

  • Nice Vanilla flavor/scent
  • High shine
  • Shimmers
  • Moisturizing
  • Long lasting
  • Non sticky

Cons

  • Feather and bleed ( one users opinion)
  • No SPF

Ingredients

All shades contain:Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Oleic/Linoleic/Linolenic Polyglycerides, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Flavor (Natural Vanilla), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Sorbitan Olivate, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Tocopherol, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuacu) Seed Butter, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Silica, Glyceryl Caprylate. (+/-): Mica, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Carmine (CI 75470).

To Sum Up

All in all Bare Escentuals have created yet another fabulous product. Most patrons found the gloss to moisturize, last, shine and be non sticky.

There was one lady who said the gloss wasn't for her, as it feathered, was sticky and she didn't much like the Vanilla fragrance.

Some fanatics think it is a little expensive at $15 a tube considering it doesn't contain any SPF. However, most said they would buy it again.

Shimmering Stardust Eyeshadow By Urban Decay Review | Highly Pigmented Shadows Blend Well & Glide On

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

Urban Decay Stardust EyeshadowUrban Decay has devised a shimmering set of eye shadows for spring 2010 called Stardust. These shades aren't for the faint heart! Apparently there is even more glitter than ever before, 40% more to be exact says Urban Decay.

The 9 different shades are listed below:

  • Space Cowboy- shimmering champagne beige
  • Bobby Dazzle- shimmery white
  • Griffith -shimmery yellow green
  • Diamond- shimmering brown
  • 54-sparkly purple
  • Retrograde- shimmering deep purple with a tinge of red
  • Atmosphere- shimmery bright blue
  • Moon spoon-sparkly greyish mauve
  • Void-greyish black with sparkles (like the night sky)

The stardust set has been designed not to have big chunks of glitter that gets every where, it should stay put. The eyeshadow has a long last formula and should glide onto your eye lids with ease. The amount of product you get has doubled compared to the other Urban Decay shadows.

Users Conclusions

Pros

  • Shimmery
  • Blends well
  • Glides on easily

Cons

  • Glitter fall out ( only a small amount but enough to notice)

Tips

To get less glitter fall out from an eye shadow try using a damp sponge to apply it. Stardust would work well for a sexy shimmering smokey eye look. I personally think void and retrograde would work well together.

Ingredients

All shades contain: Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Talc, Zinc Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Octyldodecyl Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.

To Sum Up

A nice selection of colors that most ladies love, unfortunately they aren't as pigmented as Urban Decay promise. Still very desirable though, personally I prefer more subtle shades anyway.

There is a small amount of fall out also which lets stardust down, although if used with a damp sponge fall out should lesson.

Even though Urban Decay have doubled the amount of product you get for Stardust shadow, it is still expensive at $20 for one shade.

  • Softens skin
  • Smooths skin
  • Moisturizes
  • Unclogs pores
  • Non greasy
  • Good value

Cons

To Sum Up

There are some mixed reviews on this facial sauna, although the majority of the users say it is good for the money, some think it doesn't work very well at heating the steam quickly and that it doesn't last long enough.

However, other fans say it unclogs their pores and softens their skin just as well as a more expensive brand. Most people do agree that it is quick noisy and you can hear it over the T.V.

At $25.99 it is a bargain buy just don't expect it to be perfect but for the price it does the job, according to most of the users.
